Lauren C.

She has always encouraged me to say no without fear and yes without guilt.

Other women make me a strong woman.

It’s pretty simple. When I sat down to write this and tried to explain the things about me that I think make me strong (my confidence, my drive, ability to say no,) I realized that all of these characteristics are things I have developed because other women fostered them within me.

The unyielding support of my friends and classmates have given me the confidence to pursue my dreams, and to never question my own strengths or abilities. The power and courage I see in brave women across the US — politicians, thought leaders, activists, and role models — drive me and motivate me to be a fighter; the best version of myself. My mom, the most important woman in my life (and also the strongest woman I know), taught me to know my worth. She has always encouraged me to say no without fear and yes without guilt. She’s made me an independent woman who trusts and knows myself. This is the greatest gift I’ve ever received– independence, freedom, and an ability to think and act for myself.

So really, I think behind every strong woman there’s at least a dozen other women who’ve inspired her, supported her, and loved her in ways that helped her grow. This isn’t to say women always need help to become successful and strong, but to say that our community — our love of and support for one another– is perhaps the greatest strength women have to offer both the world and each other.
