Gaining self empowerment and confidence takes time, and more importantly, it requires self love at its core.
What gets me out of bed every morning? My alarm clock, obviously, but it’s more than just that. I’m driven to start my day because of the new opportunities that constantly knocks on my door. Whether that is through personal projects, networking, or being an active voice on campus, I know that I am capable of achieving greatness.
I have been so fortunate to have empowering women around me that push me to be my best, and allow me to grow as a person through film, but I want to be clear that this doesn’t happen overnight. There’s been times where I was shaken by the slurs that were thrown at me, and torn by the lack of faith that others had in me. There’s been times where I experienced self-doubt and hate, and when I have felt alone. The real question is, how do you bounce back from that?
Gaining self empowerment and confidence takes time, and more importantly, it requires self love at its core. Meditate. Write. Surround yourself with positive energy. Regardless of the barriers that society place upon me, because I took time to discover myself, my values, and my passions through self-reflection, education, and affirmations, there is nothing stopping me from reaching my goals.
As Maya Angelou said, “I’m a woman. Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman. That’s me.” Keep going sis, and stay true to yourself.
